A Canoe Trip and a Bike Ride

Yesterday, the whole school floated down the Emån river in canoes. I was in a canoe with Emelie and Danielle, two other girls from Discovery. We christened ourselves the MadDogs, made up a chant and sang songs as we paddled down the river. We carried our canoe over three short portages. Each of us took a turn at steering, which made for adventures each time a new person took over and we ran into the bank and water grass and ducked under tree branches. We ate our sack lunches at the second portage and had a barbecue at our final destination. To keep everything dry, we put our lunches and extra clothes in a dry bag. At the end of the day, I tried to fit myself into a dry bag :)

Today, Melanie and I biked into Vetlanda to get some supplies before we head out on our first Discovery trip. Unfortunately, as we were finishing up, Melanie noticed that she had a flat tire, and it was really flat. So flat that there was no way she could ride her bike home; we tried to find a place to fill it up but just ended up walking it back, which took us about an hour and a half, rather than the half-hour ride we'd counted on. We got back just in time for her to set the table for dinner. Tonight we are planning to sleep outside at the top of this hill:
The mouse is pointing to Mount Calvary, the hill we plan to sleep on.
Here's a picture from the night we slept out on the balcony:

I'm starting to get excited for our first Discovery Trip on Wednesday!
