Life has been pretty crazy-busy these last two weeks, which accounts for the lack of communication from me, but now that I sit down to write about it, my brain is too tired to remember much. I apologize for any typos or confusing sentences because my brain is only half awake right now.
Junior Camp #3 was a blur. I had to send one camper home who had a headache and was running a fever, and apparently most of his family also caught the same bug so it was a good thing I sent him home. He was not able to come back that week, but he did come back to visit several times during family camp so at least he got some time at camp even if it wasn't the same experience everyone else had. During Jr 3, two of the youth from my youth group attended camp; I loved getting to hang out with them during free time and wide games and getting to know their cabin at meal times.
This last week of camp was Family Camp. Family Camp has a whole different feel to it from kids camps since there are fewer kids (approximately 50 between the ages of 1 and 17) and they sleep in cabins, rooms, tents, or trailers with their parents. Counselors are assigned to a certain age group during the morning bible study and activity times. The rest of the time they are expected to take initiative to hang out with whatever kids they have connected with, get to know parents and help them at meal times and free time. Family Camp was a bit of a break for me since I didn't have to dispense medication (the parents could do that) and parents also dealt with most of the headaches and bug bites that came along. Mostly I gave out a few tylonols and advils and benadryl (for swollen bug bites). That meant that I got to be more like a 'normal' counselor and spend more time hanging out with kids. It was great because three kids I had hung out with last summer and the summer before had returned. I got to hang out with them at free time and during wide games as well as at chapel and campfire. I pulled a muscle playing Capture the Flag on Monday night because it was the first wide game I felt like I could play hard in all summer since there were bigger kids to chase. Unfortunately, that meant I couldn't run much all week (and believe me, I kept trying every time it felt the better). Looking back, it was actually part of God's plan. Because I couldn't run, I ended up walking with a two five year olds and their three-year-old brother and their mom during the wide game on Tuesday night; the five-year-old girl and I really hit it off and I got to spend quite a bit of 'special' time with her over the next two days. She even drew me a picture! My biggest medical emergency for the week was Tuesday night when a boy rolled his ankle; by the time I got there is was already swelling but he could still move it and he didn't seem to be in too much pain so we iced it, elevated it, gave him some advil and sent him to bed. By the next morning he was walking normally :) .
Now I am home for the weekend. I am planning to go camping tomorrow night with Jesse and Jason. It's been interesting to plan my own trip for once rather than having my parents plan it. We'll see how it turns out :P
That's all for now, folks!
